New Harbour Master for Montrose Port Authority

Captain Tom Hutchison has been appointed as the new Harbour Master for Montrose Port Authority (MPA).
Capt. Hutchison (48) brings a wealth of experience to the role and has detailed knowledge of the operational workings of Montrose Port having been Pilot and Assistant Harbour Master for MPA from 2000 to 2012.  Prior to then, he had 18 years sea-going experience that included nine years as Master on cargo and container vessels working around the UK and Europe.

Most recently he was the skipper of a number of vessels conducting surveys for proposed offshore wind farm sites in the North Sea and Irish Sea. He was also the Training Master for a new support vessel based in Barrow-in-Furness.

Capt. Hutchison, who lives in Montrose, said: “I know the port of Montrose extremely well and I am delighted to have been appointed as Harbour Master. The growth in maritime traffic at Montrose has been very noticeable in recent times and I am looking forward immensely to the challenge of ensuring optimum operational efficiency at the port.”
Nik Scott-Gray, MPA chief executive, said: “As an experienced Master Mariner, Capt. Hutchison brings with him the skills and knowledge required for the effective management of the port. He will play an instrumental role in ensuring our successful development as we continue to develop and expand.”
