Born and bred in Glasgow, Ross started his seafaring career in 1996 with Maersk as a Deck Cadet. He has over 20 years’ experience in the shipping and offshore energy industries, primarily involved in dive and construction work as a Chief Officer. He came ashore in January 2017 as a trainee pilot at Humber Port in Northern England before joining Montrose Port Authority as a pilot in October 2019.

Ross was promoted to Harbour Master of Montrose Port in October 2022 and splits his time between these responsibilities and serving as a duty pilot, expertly helping vessels to navigate the Port’s channel. Ross brings many years of marine experience to the team and ensures that stakeholders and customers are given the service they expect from MPA.

Angus was promoted to Deputy Harbour Master of Montrose Port in October 2022 and splits these duties with his role as a pilot. Angus was born and raised in Glasgow and comes from a shipping background. He started a cadetship with the Merchant Navy once leaving school. Shortly after graduating from Strathclyde University in 2010, he started a job with Maersk Supply Services based in London.

As Chief Officer on Maersk Supply Services ships, Angus would often visit Montrose. He joined the MPA team in the summer of 2019 as a pilot and has since completed his Harbour Master Diploma in November 2021 at Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, a course MPA put him through.

Rachel first joined the Port in 2013 and was promoted to Marine Coordinator in 2020. She has a degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and painting is still something that she loves to do. Despite not having a conventional route into the sector, Rachel is well versed in the legislation which keeps us all safe at work here at the Port, with over 10 years of experience in compliance management within the public sector. MPA put Rachel through her Internal Auditor Course as part of our work towards our ISO 45001 in Occupational Health & Safety Management accreditation, making her role crucial in the audit process of the Marine Health & Safety management system at MPA.
