Boat Crew Team Member – May 2024
MPA are looking to recruit a new member for our boat crew to support our Pilot Boat Operations in Montrose.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering a competitive salary and excellent pension scheme and is a key role within our small, dynamic, friendly team based at the Port.
While this position requires specific skills, qualifications and experience, the Port are willing to invest in
the right candidate by training and developing them to reach competency standard throughout the
induction period.
Key Skills:
- Port/Seafaring/Marine operations background
- Qualified to an appropriate level
- Basic Diesel engine knowledge
- Experience of boat handling
- Ability and fitness to work in strenuous conditions
- Enthusiastic, team player
- Flexibility to respond at short notice while working on-call periods
Working Hours:
Working within a group of six on a 24hour rostered shift basis which runs throughout the year.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assist with the conduct and safety of the Pilot Boat, its crew and its navigation in compliance with all statutory regulations.
- Assist the Coxswain with the daily running requirements of the Pilot Cutters.
- Controlling the safe boarding and landing of Pilots and other passengers as directed.
- Respond to pollution incidents and marine emergencies as required by international law wherever they may occur.
- Conduct regular safety drills and exercises as programmed and detailed in procedures as requested e.g., man overboard, fire, flooding etc.
- Assist Pilot in potential Man Overboard situations in Port Maximum conditions i.e., 3-4 meter swell.
- Maintaining a lookout and assisting in the liaison and communications with Port Control and other vessels as required by the Coxswain.
- Assist or provide mooring/line handling to berthing ships as required.
- Working knowledge of Port Marine Safety Code and the content of MPA Pilot Boat O&M Manual.
- General maintenance cleaning and the checking of the vessel and its equipment. Reporting of any defects or damage and maintaining records.
- Statutory and non-statutory record keeping.
- Assist the Coxswain in complying with and upholding Montrose Port Authority Bylaws.
- Acknowledge the contents of MPA Pilot Boat Operations & Maintenance Manual.
