We are thrilled to announce that Montrose Port Authority has been recognised as the Net-Zero Business Winner at the 2024 Dundee & Angus Chamber Business Champion Awards. This accolade reflects our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our ongoing efforts to reduce our carbon footprint in line with Scotland’s ambitious net-zero goals.

The awards ceremony, held at the iconic Carnoustie Golf Resort and sponsored by the Michelin Development Fund, celebrated the achievements of 15 shortlisted businesses across six categories. Each finalist demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and community impact. We were honoured to be finalists alongside other forward-thinking and inspiring organisations in our region. 

Our success in the net-zero category highlights the significant progress made through initiatives like the Plug Montrose project, a £1 million self-funded partnership with leading Norwegian shore power company, Plug. This groundbreaking venture uses 100% renewable energy, backed by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO), to provide shore power at Montrose Port. With Berth 3 soon to be operational and plans to extend shore power to all berths, this project is a key part of our drive to decarbonise port operations and offer greener solutions to our customers.

Winning the Net-Zero Business Award is a significant milestone for MPA as we continue to lead by example in the maritime industry. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and partners, who share our vision of a sustainable future. This recognition encourages us to further develop sustainable port infrastructure and explore new ways to minimise environmental impact.

The Chamber Business Champion Awards also emphasised the importance of sustainability across various industries. Alison Henderson, Chief Executive of the Dundee & Angus Chamber of Commerce, praised the high standard of entries this year: “The competition in this year’s Business Champion Awards has been exceptional. The incredible talent and high standards across our region made the selection process more challenging than ever, an inspiring reflection of the outstanding businesses we have in our region.”
