Montrose Port hosts local supply chain event for Seagreen Wind Farm

On the 27th February 2020, Montrose Port is hosting a ‘meet your neighbour’ breakfast in conjunction with Angus Council as part of Tay Cities business month. The event held at the Links Hotel is designed to introduce local supply-chain businesses to opportunities around upcoming offshore wind projects.

Recently Montrose Port has been awarded a contract by SSE Renewables as the preferred location for the operations and maintenance base to service its new Seagreen offshore wind farm over the next 25 years. When completed, this will be Scotland’s largest facility of its type.

Seagreen will be both technically challenging and hugely important to the whole country’s electricity supply. To be constructed in three phases, it is expected to produce enough power for more than 40 per cent of Scotland’s households.

The breakfast event will see project updates from; John Kane, Seagreen’s Senior Procurement and Contracts Manager; Tom Hutchison, Montrose Port’s CEO and Kenny Clubb from Isla Developments (Zero4). As well as a deeper understanding of the Seagreen Wind Farm project and its wider impact, attendees will also benefit from networking opportunities and an insight into supply chain engagement.

Tom Hutchison comments “Focused on developing the port for future generations to come we are delighted to co-host this Tay Cities networking event with Angus Council. Integrating the local business community into the opportunities that lie afoot in the offshore wind market.”

Adding to this John Kane explains “We are pleased to be working in collaboration with Montrose Port to nurture local business relationships as we start to develop and build the operations and maintenance base for Seagreen. The 25 year lifespan of the project will bring jobs and investment to the area during initial construction and it’s on-going operational life.
