Montrose Port Authority (MPA) is a Trust Port, based in the North East of Scotland, governed by a Board of Trustees. The Port Authority is a leading support, logistics and service hub for the North Sea energy market and general cargo markets. It provides a range of marine and third-party port services including pilotage, bunkering, craneage and stevedoring. It is also the largest chain handling port worldwide.
Due to the Port’s proximity to the oil fields and emerging offshore wind farms, there is a significant involvement with the energy sector, with the remainder of the throughput and cargo volumes coming from industries including fertiliser, agri-bulks, forest products and steel.
With commercial revenues of over £9 million per annum, and directly employing over 33 FTE, the Port Authority indirectly sustains several hundred jobs through its supply chain and is a vital employer within the town of Montrose and surrounding areas.
We are currently looking to recruit an experienced Pilot who will report directly to the Harbour Master and will join our five person Pilot team working on rota.
This is a permanent, full time position offering a highly competitive salary and excellent pension scheme and is a key role within our small, dynamic, friendly team at the Port. The role will involve supporting the Harbour Master in facilitating the safe and efficient handling of shipping and the safe and efficient conduct of navigation of vessels that require Pilotage within the jurisdiction of the Authority.
To be considered for this role applicants should preferably hold a Master/ Chief Officer STCW 11/2 certificate of competency or Royal Navy equivalent. However, consideration may also be given to holders of other recognised certificates of competency with ship handling experience.
Essential Key Skills:
- Recent experience in a seagoing and/ or pilotage role.
- Computer literate
- Team player
- Ability to direct actions in a calm manner at all times, particularly in contingency situations.
Desirable Experience:
Work experience in any of the following:
- Ship handling experience
- Pilotage experience
- Seagoing experience at rank of Chief Officer or Master
- Knowledge of Montrose Harbour
- Relevant port related/ nautical knowledge
- A planned programme of training will be offered to allow candidates to reach competency standard.
