Montrose Port Authority supports ambitions of local golfers with dual sponsorship

Montrose Port Authority (MPA) has supported the development of promising young local Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) golfers Ross Boyd and Sean Logue with an ongoing sponsorship.
The vital funding will enable Boyd and Logue’s travel across Scotland as they compete in the Tartan Tour, a developmental golf tour that has boosted the careers of a number of acclaimed players, including 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie. Sponsorship funds from MPA will be used to cover the costs of entry fees, travel and accommodation as the pair take on the tour.
In addition, the two players will participate in Tartan Pro Tour events, a further Scottish tour that acts as a feeder to the Challenge Tour, which is just one step below the DP World Tour – the highest level in professional golf. The duo have also used a portion of their funding to acquire gear for use in PGA events, including custom clothing and golf bags adorned with the MPA logo, helping to raise awareness of both the port and the town at large.

Logue, whose father was a PGA professional, and Boyd, are both PGA professionals themselves, having chosen to turn their passion for golf into a career. They work together at Montrose Golf Links, where they support retail operations, custom fitting, and player coaching. Ross’s father, Jason Boyd, serves as the Head PGA Accredited Golf Professional at the facility with them.
Both players recently earned prize money at the first Scottish PGA event of the season at Gleneagles, with Logue placing 13th and Boyd coming in 16th. Logue has also had local success this year at the MPA-sponsored Tartan Pro Tour Montrose Masters event, where he again placed in the prize money.

Alongside their professional play and work at the Links, Boyd and Logue are students of a three-year Professional Golf diploma course delivered by the PGA in partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). Funding from MPA will be used to support the pair’s second year residential at The Belfry – a world-renowned golf resort in Warwickshire, England, that is home to the PGA’s headquarters, and has hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions.
Jason Boyd, Head PGA Professional at Montrose Golf Links said: “Sean and Ross are fantastic assets to me and Montrose Golf Links, and this generous sponsorship from the port will be invaluable as they continue to forge their careers in golf.”
MPA CEO Tom Hutchison commented: “We’re always pleased to see ambitious young people from Montrose pursuing their dreams, and we wish Ross and Sean all the best as they move forward with their careers and take on the Tartan Tour.”
