Introduction
The Port of Montrose operates around the clock, 365 days a year, with comprehensive CCTV surveillance covering the entire port perimeter. These cameras are monitored exclusively by authorised personnel. To ensure privacy, adjacent buildings outside the port perimeter are intentionally blurred in footage.
Montrose Port Authority adheres to guidance issued by the Department for Transport to uphold the standards of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. In line with these requirements, all CCTV equipment is tested annually to maintain operational effectiveness and ensure the safety of the port and its stakeholders.
Security Patrols
CCTV systems are utilised by authorised personnel to conduct visual security patrols. These patrols help detect and prevent any potential criminal activity or health and safety violations within the port area.
Disclosure of Footage
CCTV footage may be disclosed when necessary for legal or regulatory purposes, in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
If an organisation requests CCTV footage, they must provide a written request specifying the exact time, individuals involved, and the reason for the request. Once the request is approved and the organisation agrees to comply with the Data Protection Act, the footage will be released within 30 days of approval.
Data Retention
CCTV footage is retained by Montrose Port Authority for a standard period of 30 days. If required for legal investigations, footage may be retained for a longer period which can be up to a maximum of 12 months – unless it forms part of an ongoing investigation, in which case it may be kept for as long as legally necessary and erased when the investigation has closed.
